PPP - Putting the Palm on the Net
Palms with OS 3.0 and beyond have a TCP/IP stack, allowing you to run
networked programs on the Palm... but first they have to hook to the
network somehow. Linux is excellent as a PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol)
server, and you can easily set up
a Palm to connect to the net through a Linux box.
Once you get hooked
up, there are all kinds of TCP/IP applications for the Palm. For
example, Yanoff is
a newsreader (that also has an offline mode), Browse-it is a web
browser, ptelnet lets you
log into remote machines, and PalmVNC lets
you actually export a Windows or X desktop to your Palm!
